The Bicycle Alliance of Washington is involved in several ongoing programs that
promote bicycling for transportation.
Bikestation Seattle Bicycle Parking
Bikestation is a secure 24/7 bicycle parking facility,
offering related services and support to all cyclists.
The Bicycle Alliance is committed to excellent customer service at Bikestation.
We see this bicycle parking facility as a way we can strengthen and advocate for increasing bicycle
transportation infrastructure in Seattle, and Washington State.
Safe Routes to School Program
Feet First and the
Bicycle Alliance of Washington are working together to make walking and
biking to school safe, practical, and fun. A 2006 Transportation Enhancements grant from the
Washington State Department of Transportation enabled us to form the
Center for Safe Routes to School in Washington State.
The grant has allowed us to significantly expand our existing program and create a web site.
Since forming the Center, we held the first ever state wide Safe Routes to School Summit in Lynnwood and a second in
Spokane. We assisted numerous schools and organizations prepare grant applications, projects and programs,
participated in over 24 trainings, and gave many presentations.
We also established and facilitated a state wide coordinating committee.
Complete Streets
The streets of our cities and towns ought to be for everyone, whether young or old, motorist or
bicyclist, walker or wheelchair user, bus rider or shopkeeper.
"COMPLETE STREETS" are designed and operated to enable safe access for all users. Pedestrians,
bicyclists, motorists and bus riders of all ages and abilities are able to safely move along and
across a complete street.
Bike Buddy Program
The
Bike Buddy Program matches experienced bicycle commuters with
those looking for tips and guidance in learning how to use their bicycle for transportation.
In Spokane? There is a separate website for
Spokane Bike Buddy
Program, coordinated by the
Spokane Bicycle Club
and the Bicycle Alliance of Washington.
Additional bicycle commuter resources can be found at the
Cascade Bicycle Club website.
Trails
In addition to improving conditions for bicyclists that use the streets, the Bicycle Alliance
is also involved in efforts to build, improve, and maintain bike trails.

Legislative Issues
The Legislative and Statewide Issues Committee
works year-round to identify, research and prioritize key issues for cycling that need to be addressed at
the state level. The Bicycle Alliance works with a professional lobbyist in Olympia to forward that agenda -
he is our eyes and ears, but members are our voice. Help support our agenda by attending
Transportation Advocacy Day on [Feb. 24 in 2009]
and by contacting your legislators in support of selected bills.
Check out the Legislative Issues Page for complete
details on our Legislative Agenda and
the status of our work in Olympia and around the State.
Metro Lost Bikes
The Bicycle Alliance of Washington administers the "Lost Bike" program for
King County Metro Transit.

Lost Bikes page.
